My CNAME settings are not working, what is wrong?
I have entered my domain information and a "This page is parked" warning keeps coming up. That is occurring because either the CNAME settings did not update correctly or your domain host has your name servers parked. First check to make sure the settings are correct, then go back to the nameservers in the domain hosts settings and see if there is an option for hosted vs parked nameservers. Set it to hosted. That should do the trick.
I keep getting the SmugMug homepage instead of my site. The first place to check this is in your SmugMug control panel. Make sure you have the domain entered properly in the domain field on the settings tab.
I get to my site but the URL displays my mynickname.smugmug.com instead of the custom domain. This typically means that you have the domain forwarded instead of CNAMEd. Forwards will not work properly. You must use a CNAME and an A record. Turn off the forwarding and check the CNAME settings.
My custom domain works but only when I put in the www or without it but not both. You are missing either the CNAME or the A record. The CNAME typically allows you to use the www version of your domain. The A record allows you to leave the www off. In order to have it both ways, you need both records.
What are the SmugMug Nameservers? SmugMug is not a domain host or a traditional web host. Some domain hosts will tell you that you must enter our nameserver information. This is not the case. We do not have nameservers that you can use. Simply have them set the nameservers to their default nameservers.
I need email. What settings should I use? That is something between you and your domain host. SmugMug does not host email or provide email service. You can set up MX records in your DNS settings to point to your email provider. You will need to contact your email provider to find out what settings to use.
We frequently get users that report their custom domain name does not work. Testing to figure out what is wrong is pretty easy. Go to: http://www.zoneedit.com/lookup.html In the first block enter your domain name with the www. Change block 2 to 'Alias (CNAME)' Leave block 3 empty. Click 'Look it up' Change option 2 to IP address (A) and click 'Look it up' again Some SmugMug users do not want their visitors to have to type in the www. To test if this is set up correctly change block 1 by removing the www from the custom domain. Then click 'Look it up' Again, the results should show 63.81.134.23. If your results do not match these, you will need to review the setup instructions for your domain host. If you have problems, please contact us at help@smugmug.com Please keep in mind that these changes can occur in as little as 30 minutes, but it can take 24-48 hours to propagate across the internet.
